Interz0ne "Root Warz"
"Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to acquire the
most points possible during the root warz battle." The concept
is simple; points are awarded for gathering information about the
various target systems and your opponents. Each player will have
a score sheet outlining scoring categories. The individual or team
assessed with the most points at the end of the war will be crowned
"Hack Master".
There will be 3 battles. Friday 3pm-7pm, Saturday 12noon-4pm, and
Saturday 6pm-10pm. Attend 1 or all battles, your choice. Points
will be tallied and verified at the end of each battle. Information
acquired and actions performed to accrue points must persist, exist,
and/or be verifiable at the end of each battle to earn points.
Novices are encouraged to try to compete. Points are awarded for
varying difficulty tasks. The top 2 teams will be announced during
Sunday's award ceremony at 3pm. Winners will receive prizes and
earn free admission to Interz0ne II. Additionally they will compete
for regional title at Interz0ne II and possibly go on to nationals
at DefCon.
The following points outline the specific root warz rules for Interz0ne
2002. These rules have been borrowed and modified from root warz
such as DefCon and Phreaknic.
1.Do not physically damage any systems.
2.Target systems (Servers) are physically off limits to everyone.
This does not include attempts at non-physical social engineering;
but be warned, the Warlord is EVIL.
3.Only the systems available on the local "Battleground"
are valid targets.
4.The battleground is a closed network. No Internet access. Bring
your own tools.
5.No Denial of Service attacks allowed.
6.Avoid destructive hacking. This includes wiping hard drives, planting
viruses, muscling other opponents, etc...
7.Social engineering is allowed without physical manipulation.
8.Bandwidth will be monitored. Excessive usage of BW by a player
could result in penalty points.
9.All participants will provide an account of what they did when
they either quit the war or the war ends.
10.You are participating at your own risk. Con staff and organizers
along with other opponents are not liable for any data loss.
11.Nobody will be allowed to compete without signing the "RootWarz"
release.
12.Signing the release constitutes acceptance of above statements.
All rules are subject to the interpretation of the Warlord and
the Interz0ne staff. Violation of these rules will result in tar
and feathering and public humiliation to the utmost degree possible.
This is a game and no place for sore losers.
